With the Starclassic Performer, Tama once again writes history in this popular series of drums: the birch shells have been fitted with plies of bubinga on the inside. This African wood type is about 53% harder than birch, which allows it to emphasise the low-end, and combined with the excellent attack that the birch provides, that makes for one great-sounding hybrid kit. This four-piece Starclassic Performer Birch Bubinga shell set consists of a 22-inch bass drum, 10 and 12-inch toms and a 16-inch floor tom.

The toms and floor tom have four outer plies of birch and three inner plies of bubinga, while the bass drum also has three inner plies of bubinga, but those are surrounded by five plies of birch This high-quality shell set also has fantastic hardware: the Star-Cast Mounting System, which has been a mainstay on Tama-kits for a while now, allows the shells to resonate freely with its streamlined design. On the Birch Bubinga kits, this mounting system is made of aluminium, which is lighter and allows for a more natural tonal vibration.
Instead of triple flanged hoops, Tama chose to use zinc die-cast hoops. Not only do these create a sharper attack and clear highs, but they also allow you to play more powerful rim-shots and they ensure a more consistent tuning. Positioning the toms is incredibly easy, thanks to the included Starclassic Performer tom holder. This has a sliding connector, which you can slide back and forth up to about 5 centimetres. Simply loosen the wing bolt and move the toms to the desired position.
Bass drum
This shell set is also equipped with sturdy bass drum claw hooks that have little to no chance of damaging your (wooden) hoops, thanks to their rubber lining. The Air-Cushioned bass drum legs are also among the fancier features: they have a special air chamber that prevents the sound and sustain of your bass drum from disappearing into the ground, while also absorbing shocks created by your playing.
