The 40W Fender Hot Rod Deluxe has been an affordable top-selling amp in Fender's assortment for years. And for good reason, as it offers the famous Fender cleans and delicious Fender crunch at a very reasonable price. They're already at the third version of this model, and once every now and then Fender releases a special edition of this modern classic. This time they went for a 'Western Noir' edition, featuring a black faux leather look and an elegant white grill cloth. To complement that gorgeous look, Fender replaced the standard speaker with a Celestion Greenback!

Construction

The Fender Hot Rod Deluxe features a familiar blueprint: it's a three-channel 6L6 tube amp with a clean channel, a crunch channel, and a third channel that is activated by pressing the 'more drive' button. This last channel offers you with a considerable boost to your sound, which is perfect for shredding solos. Finally, there is also the authentic Fender spring reverb to add some additional flavour to your sound. Just like the standard model, this limited edition comes with a two-channel footswitch for channel switching and reverb. However, the most important feature of this Western Noir amp is the aforementioned Greenback speaker, which should make many a guitarist's mouth start watering!

Celestion Greenback Speaker

The ceramic Celestion Greenback speakers are known to provide a distinctly vintage sound. They've been a staple in the guitar industry since 1966, thanks to their generous amount of crunch in the mid range. Additionally, when you work the speaker a bit harder, the bass tones are also nicely compressed. Clearly, the Celestion Greenback's assertive personality is a great fit for the striking limited edition Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III.
