Whether you know it or not, the triangle has an important part to play in many genres of music, including samba. Samba bands are large, play loudly and are usually found outdoors. That makes it nearly impossible for trianglists to make themselves heard. Top German manufacturer Meinl took heed, however, and developed a fantastic triangle that was made especially for situations that call for impressive volume and a rich, well-defined sound. With a 15.75" diameter, this triangle offers a relatively low-pitched, yet clearly audible tone. Thanks to its extra thick steel construction, it offers plenty of resonance and all the volume you'll need. A metal beater is included with this instrument.
The triangle: boring or trendy?
Nowadays, the triangle is certainly a contestant in the Most Underestimated Instrument category. Together with the tambourine and the wood block, its popularity has been steadily declining over the last 100 years or so. Still, it's used a lot more often than you may realise. Many different genres employ the triangle as a supporting instrument. While many people consider it a dull instrument, if you've ever heard a great triangle player do their thing, you'll know there's nothing boring about it. That such a simple thing can be used to create the most driving and rhythmically diverse patterns is pure magic. As such, the difference between a good and a bad triangle players is just as big as it is between a good and a bad drummer, for instance.
