Descrizione
In samba reggae music, the surdo is used to set the tempo. With the SUB18, Meinl supplies a Bahia surdo made of aluminium. This instrument has an 18-inch diameter and a synthetic percussion head. A less deep shell, of only 16 inches, allows for more freedom of movement and playing possibilities. This type of surdo comes from the province of Bahia in Brazil. Bahia surdo's are known for their shallow bowls with a deep sound. An excellent instrument which fits well with the popular music style samba-reggae.
Meinl Bahia surdo: solid projection
Thanks to its aluminium shell, this surdo has a solid projection. The dull thuds are therefore sure to be heard by the entire samba band. To give the surdo a traditional touch, an embossed pattern has been applied to the top and bottom. Traditionally, three sizes of surdo are used in samba music. This SUB18 surdo has a small diameter and is excellent for the faster cutador parts. A lightweight Brazilian-style surdo, excellent for the samba-reggae percussionist.
