Roland AIRA Compact J-6 Chord Synth

Een erg inspirerende kleine synthesizer voor akkoorden, met een volwassen juno geluid. De chord functie kun je ook uitzetten zodat je ook losse noten kunt spelen. De klank vind ik erg mooi, al is de klank variatie beperkt. Audio via usb zou niet mogelijk zijn, maar ik kreeg wel het geluid via usb in mijn daw. Veel instellingen zitten een beetje verborgen maar via shift + andere knop toch makkelijk te vinden.
Ik twijfelde of ik deze wel zou aanschaffen, maar dat was niet nodig. Het is gewoon een erg leuk synthesizer tje.

Excellent petit appareil avec de grandes possibilités. Non-seulement pour explorer, de façon ludique, la richesse du monde des accords et de l'harmonie, mais aussi un séquenceur à part entière avec de très belles sonorités. Un petit compagnon indispensable qui multiplie aisément les possibilités d'improvisation et de composition musicale !

Een ontzettend fijn apparaat, dat akkoorden bedenkt waar ik zelf nooit op had kunnen komen. Goed te gebruiken in je set-up, maar ook als midi controller i.c.m. je favoriete DAW!

Roland AIRA Compact J-6 Chord Synth

De J-6 is een super fijne toevoeging aan je setup, zeker in combinatie met andere Roland AIRA's. Samen met de s-1 (synth), t-8 (drum and base), of de deze week uitgekomen p-6 sampler een echte aanrader! (De p-6 heb ik zelf nog geen ervaring mee).

Hij is specifiek ontworpen om makkelijk langere akkoord lijnen te maken in de sequencer (of om foutloos live akkoorden te spelen). Voor melodie, bas (of je eerste synthesizer) van dezelfde grootte en prijsklasse zou ik zelf eerst kijken naar bijvoorbeeld de Roland s-1 of één van de Korg volca's.

Erg fijn:
Het is heel eenvoudig om een goed klinkende akkoord lijn te maken. Die lijn kan best lang zijn zonder eentonig te worden door de vele patronen (8x12) waarin elke stap in de sequence gespeeld kan worden. Denk aan arpeggiators, ritmische akkoorden en meer uitgebreide frases. Ook qua geluid zijn er genoeg opties die allemaal getweaked kunnen worden met een low pass filter, resonance en (simpele) attack en envelope.
(Ook is de J-6 handig om handmatig foutloos akkoorden te spelen.)
De sequencer voelt voor mij erg intuïtief. Naast akkoorden (handmatig of automatisch) kun je ook noten in de sequencer inspelen voor een bas of melodie, maar dat is niet waar de J-6 het sterkste is. Naar mijn ervaring is het het beste om wat langzamere stappen te hebben en die pit te geven met de selectie patronen.

Minder (voor mij):
De 100! akkoord stijlen zijn in veel gevallen best complex waardoor het voor hen met minder ontwikkelde muziektheorie soms lastig kan zijn om met een ander instrument 'veilige' noten te spelen. De j6 laat namelijk niet zien welke noten er in het automatische akkoord zitten, dus zul je in de tabel moeten kijken.
Een oplossing is uiteraard om handmatig akkoorden in te spelen waar je je zelf comfortabel mee voelt. Dat gaat overigens heel makkelijk!

Kortom: Een prachtige synth voor pads en begeleiding met een prettige sequencer en geluid van goede kwaliteit. Wil je meer controle over het geluid (LFO, waveforms, meer filteropties, etc.) of een melodie sequencen? Dan misschien eerst eens kijken naar andere AIRA, volca of gelijksoortige producten.

Ik heb de Roland AIRA Compact J-6 Chord Synth nu een week in huis en in die tijd kun de het apparaat goed leren kennen.De bediening is eenvoudig en overzichtelijk.

Ik heb er een Boss BMIDI-5-35 3.5 mm TRS - MIDI-kabel bij besteld om mijn MIDI keyboard met de J6 te verbinden. Daardoor kan ik op mijn keyboard de geluiden op de J6 aansturen: losse noten, akkoorden en eventueel de phrases (arrepeggio's).

Het geluid is dat van de Roland Juno-60. Die klinken prima.
In combinatie met shift-toets krijgen de knoppen een andere functie.
Je kunt kiezen uit 100 akkoordensets in allerlei muzieksoorten, o.a. pop, blues, klassiek. Daarnaast zijn er 64 patterns, waarvan er 16 voorgeprogrammeerd zijn.

Variabel tempo. De sequencer is eenvoudig in te stellen bestaat uit 8 stappen, uitbreidbaar tot 32.

Ik heb de J6 met een USB kabel met de PC vebonden. In de DAW kies je als midi-kanaal de J6 en je kunt een midi-track opnemen. Daarnaast natuurlijk ook de audio bijv. via een mixer.Dat kun je gebruiken als basis voor een eigen nummer.

Ook is de J6 prima te gebruiken om snel een sequence te maken om op te jammen.Op de site van Roland staan lijsten van de akkoordensets en de patterns.Er zijn nog 2 Roland compact apparaten, die in combinatie gebruikt kunnen worden, maar die zijn voor mij niet interessant.

Al met al een leuk apparaat waar ik nog veel plezier van ga hebben.

De Roland J6 is de ideale tool om de computer uit de studio te ditchen. Ondanks dat hij deel is van de "speelgoed serie" van Roland is het een serieuze tool die een hoop leuke nieuwe compositie ideeën geeft!

Hele toffe synth, maar Roland stuurt geen TRS/MIDI kabels mee (!) of een voeding (alleen een USB C kabel) dus de levering is vrij karig. Roland zegt dat je een (veel te dure) BOSS TRS kabel nodig hebt voor midi connectie, die ze 'B' noemen, je hebt echter een type A connector nodig. De trs verlopen van novation circuit of bijv de beatstep werken hier niet mee (!).
