The Tama STAR TLM146S is a 14 x 6-inch Solid Shell snare drum made of maple, featuring a Natural Oil Maple finish. It's a subtle snare drum with a transparent sound and light response.

The use of maple guarantees a rich, bright sound, while some redesigned features give this snare drum's sound and looks an elegant touch. Tama wanted to design a snare drum that offered just a bit more articulation than other snares in their STAR series. After several trips back to the drawing board, a new star was born: the Solid Shell TLM146S.

Snappy

The Super Sensitive Hi-carbon Steel Snappy Snare wires have a specially designed plate and a revised winding pattern for the wire coils, resulting in a remarkably crisp snare sound. The Linear-Drive Strainer was designed to give you more precise control over the lever and to smooth out the strainer's deployment motion. This way, you won't hear the slap of the snares hitting the bottom head, even if you rapidly engage the strainer. Furthermore, to prevent the snare wires from loosening, the strainer is equipped with a ratchet system. This allows you to perform small, single-click adjustments to the tension of the wires, allowing you to fine-tune your sound!

Lugs

Even the lugs have been redesigned - they now feature a bridge construction and make minimal contact with the shells. As a result, the drum's resonance is optimised while its overall weight is reduced significantly. Finally, the Tama TLM146S snare drum features three air holes, as opposed to the single air hole that most toms, floor toms and bass drums have. These extra holes in the shell allow the snare to produce a much brighter and drier sound that projects evenly in all directions.
