When you listen to any record from the '70s, chances are that you will hear the sound of a plate reverb. This giant mechanical contraption was about the size of a double bed. It was omnipresent in the recording studio, and was the only kind of reverb used on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. What makes this effect so special is the way it adds extra dimensions of depth and ambience to your guitar sound, in an unobtrusive way. Catalinbread have captured the essence of the plate reverb perfectly in the compact Talisman stomp box.
Talisman: a musical lucky charm
Plate reverb can be used to record virtually any instrument, including vocals. Thanks to its warm, full sound, the effect is particularly suitable for electric guitar. The problem with plate reverbs is, however, that due to their size, they are impossible to take on tour. Not anymore though, thanks to the Talisman. During development, Catalinbread used a vintage EMT140 plate reverb to help recreate the authentic sound in the Talisman. They even incorporated the same controls as you would find in a studio. With Pre-Delay you can delay the reverb by about 100 mS, while High-Pass reduces the low frequencies.
