After thirty years of building drum kits with birch, Tama decided to use this type of wood in a new way. For the Starclassic Performer BB series, they combined it with bubinga to create a unique sound that has both the robust, powerful aspect of the birch, and the warm, emphasised lows of the bubinga. This five-piece shell set consists of a 22 x 20-inch virgin bass drum, 10 x 6.5 and 12 x 7-inch toms, and 14 x 12 and 16 x 14 floor toms. All drums come in a Twilight Blue Burst finish that combines two shades of blue.

The shells are comprised of a combination of 3 inner plies of bubinga and 4 outer plies of birch for the toms and floor toms, while the bass drum has one additional ply of birch, making the shells 6 and 8 millimetres thick, respectively. The toms are suspended by Tama's special StarCast tom mounting system, which allows the shells to resonate freely as it only makes contact with the hoops. Furthermore, the floor toms are fitted with Tama's air cushioned floor tom legs. These features special air chambers that prevent the shell's vibrations from disappearing into the ground. And as the bass drum is a virgin model - without any holes drilled into it - it can also resonate freely.
Hardware
The bass drum hoops are made of wood and come in the same beautiful finish as the shells, and they're held in place by Tama's special claw hooks. Meanwhile, the toms and floor toms feature die-cast hoops that have no structural weak points, keeping the tension on the Evans drumheads consistent for a long, long time. You can mount the toms on the special (included) MC69 clamps that will fit on any regular stand. Both toms and floor toms are equipped with the Quick-Lock tom brackets, that make setting up and tearing down your kit a fast and efficient process. Finally, all hardware on the shells features the same chrome-plated finish.
