Descrizione

This double-cut solid-body has all the looks and sounds of an SG standard. Not just because of the characteristic little devil horn cutaways and vintage finish but also due to a bat-style scratch plate. The four potmeters and 3-way switch on this electric guitar can be used to pull each and every possible sound out of the two Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers when combined with your favourite amp while the SlimTaper neck profile and rounded fret ends assure a satisfying feel and great playability. A LockTone bridge turns re-stringing into a walk in the park and since the whole thing's been built by Gibson's daughter company, Epiphone, you can start rockin' right away without having to spend a mountain of money.

Epiphone SG Standard Ebony elektrische gitaar

Ik was op zoek naar een 'traditionele' SG gitaar. Uiteindelijk gekozen voor de Epiphone SG Standard uit de Inspired by Gibson 2020 lijn. Ook de SG Standard 60s geprobeerd (met de halve slagplaat), maar diens ProBucker pickups zijn meer 'vintage' van toon. De Alnico Classic PRO's in de SG Standard hebben net wat meer bite, wat goed past bij de hardrock en jaren 80 metal die ik er op speel.

Pluspunten:
- Het gevoel van een 'echte' SG, kloppend qua bouw en features, voor een kleinere prijs (t.o.v. een Gibson).
- Speelbaarheid van de hals met SlimTaper profiel. Dit is uiteraard persoonlijk.
- Geluid. Beide pickups goed bruikbaar en de volume/tone knoppen werken prima (voldoende lineair).
- Comfort bij zittend spelen. Ten opzichte van mijn single-cut (LP) gitaar is de SG Standard lichter, dunner en de uitsnede voor het been zit (voor mij) op een betere plek. Door de positie van de brug verschuift alles wel iets naar links (dus de hals 'lijkt langer'), maar dit is een kwestie van gewenning.

Minpunten:
- De afstelling uit de doos was aardig en zeker speelbaar, maar zoals eigenlijk altijd is een volledige afstelbeurt aan te raden. Zelf doen of eventueel uitbesteden. Daarbij gelijk de snaren verwisselen. De af-fabriek snaren klonken vrij vlak en waren stug.
- De frets van mijn exemplaar hadden beter afgewerkt kunnen zijn. Hier en daar wat voelbare scherpe frets, dus heb ze moeten bijwerken en polijsten. Ze waren wel mooi vlak.

Conclusie:
Voor dit geld zijn er zeker gitaren beschikbaar met meer en/of modernere features. Het 'gevoel' speelt bij muziek maken echter ook een grote rol. Ben je op zoek naar een tijdloze gitaar en/of 'period-correct' SG, dan is dit, voor dit geld, waarschijnlijk de beste Epiphone SG Standard ooit.

Wat een mooi gitar, Ik speel al jarrn op een Gibson LP custom en de Epiphone speeld eigenlijk net zo goed, ja het klinkt wel anders maar dat was juist de bedoeling, de afwerking is geweldig en ik heb de snaren iets lager gezet maar buiten dat was het perfect zo uit de doos.

Excellent instrument, la finition n'a rien à envier à une Gibson (j'ai une Les Paul, elle n'est pas mieux fini). Les micros Alnico Classic Pro sont guère différent des Burstbucker 61 (des Alnico V sur les deux modèles), c'est du gros son. Par contre, prévoir de changer au plus vite les cordes qui elles sont pourries, vos doigts vous remercieront! La version Ebony est la mieux fini.

Pour moi quatre étoiles et demi,
