Catalinbread's Naga Viper is a booster in the tradition of the Dallas Rangemaster. This pedal was used by many influential British guitarists including Brian May, Tony Iommi, KK Downing and Glen Tipton. Whilst these guitarists all have their own unique sound, they also share a secret. They all used a Rangemaster to give their overdriven British tube amps an extra push, resulting in a sea of harmonies. The Naga Viper is not just a homage to the Rangemaster though, it goes even further, with two extra controls: Range and Heat. With Range you can vary between classic treble boost and full-range boost while the Heat control functions as a gain regulator. In short, the Catalinbread Naga Viper is a modern treble booster. It's the hot sauce for your pedal board.
Naga Viper: classic overdrive
Catalinbread suggest using the Naga Viper in combination with an amplifier that already has a nice crunch. If your amp misses a master volume control then you usually need to turn the volume up to at least 12 o'çlock. For an amplifier with master volume, set the preamp with a moderate dose of gain. With Range and Heat turned all the way up and Boost almost at maximum too, the Naga Viper will produce a classic treble boost. Be warned that if you play a riff now you may find it hard to stop again due to the awesome overdriven tones washing over you! The Naga Viper has a lot more to offer too, so don't forget to experiment with all of the different settings.
