After thirty years, Tama decided to try and use birch in a new way. This resulted in the Starclassic Performer BB series, that combines birch with bubinga, allowing for a unique sound that has both the power of birch and the warmth of bubinga. This kit consists of a 22 x 18-inch bass drum, 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms, and a 16 x 14-inch floor tom in two-tone blue finish, which is aptly named Twilight Blue Burst.

The toms and floor toms consist of 4 outer plies of birch and 3 plies of bubinga, making them 6 mm thick. The bass drum, however, received an additional ply of birch, bringing its thickness up to 8 mm. Furthermore, the bass drum features a bracket for the MTH1000 tom holder that allows you to mount a tom at virtually any angle, thanks to its ball-joints. The shell set also features Tama's StarCast tom mounting system, which allows the shells to resonate freely as it suspends them from their hoops rather than their shells. And the Quick-Lock system on the toms and floor tom ensures that setting up and tearing down your kit is a quick and easy job.

Other hardware

All hardware on the shells features a durable chrome finish. You have, for instance, the claw hooks that hold the wooden bass drum hoops. Furthermore, the special die-cast hoops on the toms and floor tom, which have no structural weak points, keeping the tension on the Evans drumheads consistent for a long, long time.
