When you combine two types of wood, there's no guarantee that the tonal properties of each wood type will resurface in the eventual sound of the drum. Luckily, Tama has managed to achieve just that in their Starclassic Performer BB series. The powerful character of the birch is accompanied by the warmth of the bubinga. This three-piece shell set consists of a 22 x 16-inch virgin bass drum, a 12 x 8-inch tom and a 16 x 16-inch floor tom, featuring a unique two-tone Twilight Blue Burst finish.

The 6mm-thick tom and floor tom shells consist of three inner plies of bubinga with four outer plies of birch. The bass drum, however, has five outer plies of birch, making it 8 mm thick. Furthermore, the tom and floor tom are equipped with the Quick-Lock tom brackets that allow you to mount your toms just right in a matter of seconds, while the StarCast mounting system suspends them from the hoops instead of the shells for optimal resonance. The Air Cushioned floor tom legs have special air chambers to prevent the shell's vibrations from disappearing into the ground.
Chrome hardware
All hardware on these blue shells features a chrome finish, giving them a rather distinguished look. Furthermore, the wooden bass drum hoops are held in place by special claw hooks with a rubber lining that prevents them from damaging the hoops and keeps them from rattling if you tune your bass drum heads quite loosely. Meanwhile, the tom and floor toms feature die-cast hoops that have no structural weak spots, allowing them to keep the tension on the Evans drumheads consistent for a long time.
