Tama's Imperialstar series offers excellent quality at affordable prices. To achieve that excellent quality, Tama adapted elements from several other series and applied them to this one. And it's definitely affordable, considering what a complete package you're getting. With the Meinl cymbal set and Tama Stagemaster stands, Iron Cobra bass drum pedal and drum throne, you can hit the ground running. Moreover, Imperialstar kits offer a warm, rich sound that will appeal to both beginners and more advanced players.
Tama IP58H6HC-MNB Imperialstar 5-piece drum kit: jazz configuration
With its compact shell sizes, this kit is what you'd call a 'jazz' kit. It consists of an 18 x 14-inch bass drum, a 13 x 5-inch snare drum, 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms and a 14 x 12-inch floor tom. The shells are 7.5 mm thick and are made of six plies of poplar, which gives them a warm sound with particularly rich lows. To allow the wooden shells to resonate optimally, the blue wrap has been glued to the entirety of the shells, as opposed to just a few spots. Furthermore, this kit features Tama's Precision Bearing Edges and Imperialstar lugs, which are extra small for minimal contact with the shells.
Cymbals, stands and a throne
Included, you'll find a three-piece MCS cymbal pack by renowned cymbal manufacturer Meinl, which contains a pair of 14-inch hi-hat cymbals, a 16-inch crash and a 20-inch ride. You can mount these cymbals on the three included stands (straight, boom and hi-hat), which are very sturdy, durable and easy to use. The toms will feel right at home on Tama's tried-and-true tom mounting system, which is easy to adjust, but also provides the toms with plenty of stability, while allowing them to resonate freely. The special Accu-Tune bass drum hoops are also very reliable, and they make sure your bass drum stays in tune for much longer. The sturdy drum throne will keep you comfortable behind the Imperialstar kit.
