Drummers from around the world are familiar with Mapex's Saturn series of drum kits, and by launching the Saturn V series, Mapex shows that they've listened to their feedback. Most importantly, Mapex complied with regard to their desire for SONIClear bearing edges - because why should those fantastic edges stay confined to the Mars and Armory kits?
Mapex Saturn V MH PC Red Strata Pearl: 3-piece rock shell set
Now that the hybrid Saturn V drum kit also has these fancy bearing edges, both its sound and its tuning range have been greatly improved due to the fact that the drumhead makes better contact with the shell.
This 3-piece rock kit comes in a Red Strata Pearl finish and consists of a 22 x 18" bass drum, a 12 x 9" tom and a 16 x 16" floor tom. The 6-ply tom shells and the 8-ply bass drum shell are made of maple and walnut, a combination that ensures a bright sound with a nice balance of mids and lows. The bass drum has plenty of punch and boom, and the toms complete the picture with their beautifully bright and focused sound.
Toms
Besides the SONIClear bearing edges, the Mapex MXSV426C-PC Saturn V also features the SONIClear Tom Suspension system. As this system ensures minimal contact with the shells, the toms can resonate freely and the resulting vibrations largely stay confined within the shells and drumheads themselves. Furthermore, this kit includes a TH800 tom holder. The bass drum is fitted with isolating claw hooks and a rubber lining, reducing the chance of them damaging the hoops, or coming loose and rattling as you play. In short, with the Saturn V Maple Hybrid series, Mapex lives up to the hype!
