Gretsch's Broadkaster drum kits were incredibly popular in the 1950s, and are now back in full effect, featuring a number of modern updates. This three-piece shell set with Anniversary Sparkle finish is a Standard Build edition, which means it is equipped with modern hardware. It answers to the name Classic Heritage, a nod to the impressive history of the Broadkaster series. The configuration of a 22-inch bass drum, a 12-inch tom and a 16-inch floor tom makes the set ideal for rock and fusion, but it's also suitable for other music styles.
Broadkaster Classic Heritage Anniversary Sparkle: shells
The shells of the BK-R423-ASP set are made of two plies of maple with a ply of poplar in between. These thin shells produce a characteristically warm and full sound with plenty of resonance, just like the old Broadkaster shells. Despite its vintage inspiration, the set comes with modern hardware, including the Gretsch Tom Mounting System (GTS) that minimises contact between shells to ensure optimal resonance. The bass drum is supported by USA G9013 telescopic legs and the floor tom is kept firmly in place by its 12.7mm floor tom legs - stability certainly won't be an issue.
Hoops and bearing edges
The 6-ply maple hoops of the bass drum have a Vintage Sparkle inlay that emphasises the overall great looks of the kit. The double-flanged hoops of the toms have been modelled after the old models, but are made of a more rugged type of steel. The bearing edges of the Classic Heritage Anniversary Sparkle shells have been finished with a reverse roundover technique, ensuring optimal surface contact between shell and drumhead for that full, warm, authentic Gretsch sound.
