Paul McCartney started out with a 1961 version of the Violin Bass, which he then replaced by an improved bass guitar shortly after. This new 1962 version was later gifted to him by Höfner and is the bass guitar we've probably seen in the hands of the Beatles bass player the most. This hollow-body model is still available in the shape of the Hofner H500/1-62-0 Vintage '62 (with case and strap). It also has the original neck profile to enhance sustain and comfort.

The Original Beatles Bass

The Hofner H500 Vintage '62 has all the features of the original Beatles Bass including a classic Sunburst finish, Hofner tailpiece and pearloid pickguard and control panel. The rich sound of this bass is delivered by two humbucker pickups combined with a fully hollow body. This body also ensures this instrument remains lightweight which will no doubt be appreciated by your back after several hours of playing.
