This Mapex Meridian Birch bass drum is made of six plies of birch and is 7.2 mm thick. Birch has been used to make drums for ages now, and it is known as being almost a natural EQ which has a nice balance between low and high end frequencies. It gives your drums a bit of a brighter sound with a slightly shorter tone decay. This Meridian Birch-series bass drum has a number of high-end features that help it achieve its impressively deep and rich sound.

This 22 x 18-inch bass drum has special lugs that make minimal contact with the shell. These single-point-of-contact lugs, as Mapex calls them, allow the shell to resonate freely, enhancing its sound. Furthermore, the bass drum is fitted with lined claw hooks, that do not damage the hoop of the drum and that will not start rattling as you play.
Finally, the beautiful finish is worth mentioning. All lacquer finishes in the Meridian series are applied by hand, and this Transparent Cherry Red finish is almost literally the icing on the cake!
