Incredible sound for the speaker of this size. Quite comparable to the (more expensive) Mackie CR4, and better than other 3-4 inch speakers I tested. Don't know how much "reference" it is, but without measuring, just by listening, it's difficult to say. There's definitely nothing wrong with the sound. It does have some specifics, like different accent in the middles comparing to CR4, and more bass and treble comparing to Behringer 50, but whether its good or bad is very subjective and up to a personal taste for a specific recording.
In short, if you don't know that you need something else, quite recommended.
Just two more things: don't judge its sound right after unpacking, let it play for at least couple of hours, and don't put it right on the desk, lift it up to the level of your ears you'll be amazed how much difference it does.
