The ESI MAYA22 USB is a pocket-size audio interface equipped with all essential inputs for recording 24-bit/96kHz audio. In fact, it's fitted with a phantom-powered XLR/jack combo microphone input, a Hi-Z input for your (bass) guitar or keyboard, a set of RCA line inputs for plugging in a playback device, two stereo jack outputs for sending out the audio and, of course, a headphone output for monitoring and mixing. Simply hook it up to your laptop or computer and gain access to the routing and volume levels via ESI's software.

Ik bestelde het toestel voornamelijk om als DAC en DI box te gebruiken tussen mijn pc en mijn monitors. Na één dag van vele frustraties heb ik het toestel geretourneerd.

Minpunten:
- software is niet gebruiksvriendelijk en werkt niet naar behoren.
- luide plop als het toestel wordt ingeschakeld.

Pluspunten:
- behuizing is degelijk en het toestel voelt kwalitatief aan.
- audiokwaliteit leek me redelijk. Ik heb het wel maar kort gebruikt dus een doorgronde mening kan ik hier niet over geven.

De meegeleverde software is verouderd, niet gebruiksvriendelijk en werkt niet naar behoren. Telkens je het volume helemaal omlaag doet, gaat de mute functie aan. Als je het geluid dan terug omhoog doet, komt er geen geluid. Je moet speciaal de MAYA software terug openen om de mute functie af te zetten.

Telkens het toestel wordt ingeschakeld (=voeding krijgt van de pc via USB) klinkt er een luide plop door de boxen. De plop is van dezelfde grootte orde als het maximum volume dat het toestel kan leveren. Bijgevolg is het dus erg storend. Zeker omdat een USB-verbinding wel eens uitvalt.

Ik zou het toestel niet aanraden...

ESI MAYA 22 USB interfaccia audio

Voor mijn muziekcollectie op mijn Synology was ik op zoek naar een redelijk betaalbare DAC die mijn FLAC en Lossless muziek ook kon afspelen.
De 24bit/96kHz DAC die in deze interface zit ingebouwd kan dit werkelijk waarmaken! De geluidskaart is plug and play, de app Audiostation herkent deze interface en speelt al mijn muziek bestanden probleemloos af.

De ESI is vervolgens aangesloten op een Marantz - Focal combinatie. Met de instelling "source direct" kunnen de eigenschappen van de ESI als audiobron goed weergegeven worden, met als resultaat een heerlijk warm geluid.

Over de kwaliteit doet deze, naar mijn mening, het zeker niet minder dan de overige duurdere Hi-end DAC's. Het volumebereik kan de ESI makkelijk aan, zowel in het midden als laag gaat uitstekend!
De bouwkwaliteit is naar mijn mening ook degelijk, en straalt professioneel uit met zijn vergulde aansluitingen.

Ik heb de interface icm de kabel Procab CLA631 aangesloten. Niet zo een hele audiofiele kabel, maar hij voldoet prima en heeft haast geen signaal verliezen. De overige functies van de ESI heb ik helaas nog niet kunnen testen en kan daarover geen mening geven.

Klein nadeel, vind ik, is het blauw ledje dat bij de mic-input zit altijd aan blijft staan. Maar aangezien de Synology altijd aan staat (waar ook altijd een blauw led aanstaat), is het op den duur toch niet meer storend.

Conclusie:
Een zeer goede prijs/kwaliteit verhouding!
