The Electro Harmonix Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi features two effects in a single housing, offering overdrive and separate distortion in a single pedal.

Distortion

The right side of the pedal allows you to operate the distortion effect. The gain and volume buttons determine the level of distortion and the overall output. The bias knob colours your distortion, similar to the Germanium transistors from the 1960s, adding anything from a mellow edge to a more aggressive tone.

The volts knob increases or decreases the voltage, affecting your sound even more.

Overdrive

Switch on the overdrive and adjust the level of crunch in your sound with the gain knob. The bias knob determines the colouring of your sound. Set the knob to twelve o'clock and your sound will be clear and dynamic. Turn it all the way up to add real grit to the overdrive, or turn it all the way down if you prefer a more compressed sound. With the tone knob, you can emphasise either the low end or the high end.

Distortion + overdrive

The Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi allows you to combine both effects, but if you do so, only the controls on the distortion side of the pedal can be used. Just set your overdrive to a fixed configuration and use the distortion knobs to perfect your sound.

Heerlijk vuil fuzz geluid. De fuzz kant kun je de meest gestoorde stervende fuzz geluiden uit halen. Met de overdrive kant kun je het geheel nog even wat verder over zijn nek laten gaan. Het enige nadeel is dat bij mij de overdrive kant nogal veel ruiste. Verder maakt dit niet uit want als je speelt hoor je dit niet.

Wat een geweldige distortion en Fuzz. Mooi rond geluid zelfs met een Tele!! Ook handig omdat het 2 in 1 is geeft het wat ruimte op je pedal board!

i watched the videos and took a punt on this one and it's exactly what I wanted. The overdrive gives a nice boost, the distortion really thickens out the tone. Having two pedals in one gives you loads of tonal variations if you're willing to spend time with it - really like the torn speaker sound too (volts dial). It doesn't sound modern to my ears, which was one of its main selling points -I'm in enjoying that germanium sound!
