In 1954, the Gretsch (White) Falcon was presented as a model for the future. It became so popular right away, however, that Gretsch quickly started rolling them out. Rock & roll icon Brian Setzer - famous for heading the Stray Cats and his own Brian Setzer Orchestra - is an avid fan of these classic Gretsches and doesn't only collect them, but modifies them to suit his personal playing style. The Gretsch G6120 Black Phoenix has been modelled after Brian's modified Falcon, and features TV Jones humbuckers, simplified tone controls and a pegged Adjustomatic bridge.

Construction

Like the original G6136 White Falcon, this Black Phoenix has a high-grade laminated maple body with a beautifully arched top. Gretsch's patented 1959 trestle bracing reduces the chance of feedback, even at high volumes. The maple neck has a scale length of 25.5 inches and is fitted with an ebony fingerboard with 22 frets. The durable Grover Imperial tuners and characteristic thumbnail position markers of the classic Falcon are still in place.

Setzer Nashville Signature

Stripped down and modified, the Brian Setzer Black Phoenix is built for high performance. The extensive tone controls of the original model have been simplified, so you won't lose any part of the two feisty TV Jones Humbuckers' signals to the tone control circuitry. No matter how enthusiastically you use the Bigsby vibrato unit, the pegged bridge ensures clear intonation and a stable tuning at all times. In looks, this Gretsch G6136 is remarkably modest. A stylised phoenix adorns the pickguard and the back of the headstock bears Brian's signature.
