The ESP LTD FRX-401 BLK is one of the first FRX guitars with the LTD name on it. Before, they were only available as ESP models, wildly above the budget of most guitarists. This then is a very welcome addition to LTD's line of products. Its impressively designed FRX body's waist, horns and bottom make it look like it might be a monstrous mutation of a classic ST model. This here's the high-gloss black version, which - just like the other FRXs - is equipped with two enormously tight-sounding active humbucker pickups.

FRX-401 BLK: from full and raw to clear and balanced

Thanks to its mahogany body, the LTD FRX-401 BLK produces a full yet clear tone. Additionally, a set-thru neck (a neck that runs down through the body) adds greatly to the overall sustain. The high-quality core sound is then translated into a tight, hum-free signal by two active EMG humbucker pickups. The EMG 60 produces rich, raw sounds while the EMG 81 is an expert at creating super-even tones. To match all this metal mayhem, the guitar naturally features vast playing comfort thanks to a slender neck and extra large frets.
