The Leslie 2101 mk2 rotary speaker is more compact, lighter and cheaper than a traditional Leslie. Weighing in at just 23 kg, it's essentially the top half of a traditional Leslie combined with a perfect digital simulation of the lower rotor delivered through two 75 watt speakers. What's more, this model is more tweakable than any other Leslie speaker. If you're a Hammond organist who regularly travels to rehearsals or performances, this Leslie model is much more manageable than a traditional version.

Leslie 2101 mk2: construction

In the late 1930s, Donald J. Leslie started designing the Leslie speaker. Basically, the concept makes use of the Doppler effect to alter how sound waves are heard relative to the listener. Just like a true vintage Leslie, this 2101 mk2 reproduces low and high tones separately. The characteristic horn rotor takes care of the trebles, and a digital bass rotor takes care of the low frequencies. In total, this speaker offers a capacity of 50 watts for the horn and 150 watts for the left and right Stationary speakers.

Connection options

There are various ways to connect the Hammond 2101 mk2. It features connections for both 8-pin and 11-pin Leslie cables, for starters. Thanks to a line-in, even instruments without a special Leslie output can be plugged into the speaker. It's also possible to send instruments to only the Stationary portion of the 2101 mk2 where the rotary system is not used. A MIDI input and output make it possible to send data from the Hammond or another MIDI device to the speaker. This compact Leslie is equipped with the lightest, most affordable rotary speaker available and boasts an authentic sound and a modern design.
