The great thing about crash cymbals, is that there is a veritable plethora of different types, sizes and shapes. And when it comes to diversity in their line-up, Meinl has proven themselves three times over. The Byzance series sets itself apart with its carefully hand-hammered products, and the Vintage crashes are part of this series. With its sand-blasted finish, the 16-inch B16VC vintage crash has a somewhat matted look that really shows off the hammer marks on the cymbal. Making this cymbal is quite a laborious project, but it's well worth it.
Meinl Byzance B16VC
Sand-blasting is used for more than an optical effect, as it gives the cymbal a remarkably dry sound with a rich low end. Its attack isn't too sharp, but buttery and soft, and unlike some other crash cymbals, which can sound a bit shrill and metallic, this B16VC Vintage Crash has plenty of body and great sustain, while the hand-crafted nature of these cymbals gives every individual product its own unique sound.
